STAR Wars is 21 this year. Yep, ancient history. But that's no reason to hold back on a brand new line in Star Wars merchandising. In fact, there's all sorts of reasons why the "first officially licenced" Star Wars computer accessories to be released in Australia for five years could be blockbuster hits.
First, mice and mouse mats weren't even invented when Star Wars hit the big screen back in 1977. Star Wars pre-dates both the mouse-driven Apple Macintosh and the bug-riddled version of Microsoft Windows by about six years.
But it's not like we've never seen Star Wars mouse merchandise before; it's just that it wasn't like this.
Two-button mice come in the shape of Darth Vadar, C3PO and a stormtrooper, all of which work best on a 3-D lenticular motion mouse mat featuring Han Solo and Chewbacca jumping to lightspeed in the Millennium Falcon.
The other reason you might want to stock up on merchandise now is that the second Star Wars trilogy starts next year, immediately turning first-generation memorabilia into dead-cool collectors' items. Then again, it may just mean you have to buy it all twice.
